Our Problem:
The world is burning, so why would people consider expanding their closets? Clothes are a luxury good, and usually the first thing to go out of people's budget when times get tough. Beyond that, fashion itself has a problem. Fashion has lost its soul and has become an endless cycle of referencing and regurgitating the same stories. These mass-produced stories, in turn, are slowly losing their humanity. Good, important work gets taken, simplified, and streamlined to be profitable. Resulting in a product so unrecognizable, that it loses the original intention and skill in the process. So that the wheel continues to cycle and the money continues to spin, the why of a garment is lost in the process. This loss of authenticity and purpose is what drives us at Maxson to create in our own way, slow, intentional, and building things to last.
Our Offering:
Caring about what you consume is not frivolous, and it does not have to be intentionless. If given the proper care, fashion can be a constant companion, a vessel of comfort and self-expression, like a community embedded in fiber. But more than that, it has always been a method of sharing what we know. Sharing knowledge is the connective tissue that has built community, trust, and love for generations. Your grandfather's jacket that has deep pockets filled with half-melted caramel cough drops, the pair of overalls that you pull out of a bin in the attic with the impression of a screwdriver in the left breast pocket. Testaments to those who came before, and a tangible nod to the skills and lives they lived. Garments that hold the wisdom and hard-earned secrets, revealed to the close observer with every fold of cloth and weathering of pigment.
We create with that story in mind from the beginning. We make modern heirlooms that are made to assist in the sharing of knowledge and facilitate intergenerational storytelling. Creating space for anyone to see themselves in this generational conversation, wherever they come to it. You don’t have to be a professional carpenter…or a glassblower, or a quilter; you could love to cook, or tinker, or simply exist. These clothes will be there, not only to simplify your journey but provide comfort in easing the sharing of your passion. We at Maxson invite you to be a part of the future in fashion, championing craftsmanship, intentionality, and heart.
